Seven girls relays place at Hispanic Games; Walsh has great day

The Somers Track and Field teams traveled to The Armory in NYC for the 16th Annual Hispanic Games.  Day two was mainly frosh, soph, and class relays.

The girls found much success as 4 track relays and 3 field relays all placed in the top 6 earned medals and t-shirts.

The long jump team of Alexa Baiano and Jessica Liberatore team up to place 3rd.  Baiano jumped 14-09 while Liberatore 14-00.  Jocelyn Almodovar (14-00) and Maddie Golden placed 5th.

Freshman Becca Bertels jumped 4-04 in the high jump and teamed up with Liberatore to place 3rd.

The freshman girls 4x8 team of Jackie Kruger (2:44), Sarah Barr (2:47), Olivia Myers (2:56) and Michala Donnelly (2:59) placed 4th in 11:28.

One of the best performances of the day went to the 4th place sophomore 4x400m relay team.  Baiano (66), Kim Walsh (65), Maddie Golden (69) and Claire Roediger (68) ran a solid 4:30.  The last three runners all ran PR's.  Walsh's time was especially good while Golden ran 5 seconds faster than she did on Thursday.  Roediger continues to race well after coming back from a stress fracture in XC.

The girls 4x200m relay team made the final and placed 4th.  Katy Kleinberg, Kim Walsh, Kelly Lucia, and Jocelyn Almodovar ran 1:54.69, the best time of the season.  Walsh and Almodovar both split under 28 while Kleinberg continues to run a great leadoff leg.  Lucia has shown continued progress this season and should be rnning under 29 very soon.

The varsity 4x800m placed 2nd in 10:17.  Maggie Hashmall ran a 2:34 PR to lead off.  Rachel O'Connell ran the 2nd leg and Crosby Tillman the 3rd.  Both ran 2:36.  Eve Marenghi ran a solid 2:29.8 anchor, racing solo most of the way.  The same four will team up on Friday at Yale.
