Freshman Girls County Champs Meet 10/22/12

Freshman Boys County Champs Meet 10/22/12

We had a VERY good race on Saturday at the Section One Coaches Invitational at Bowdoin Park. The varsity team placed third in the Varsity 4 race, out of 16 teams, to win a plaque, just 22 points behind Lakeland/Panas, 133-155. We were ahead on points at the 2 mile mark. We posted an 18:25 team time average - must better than the 18:48 at Leagues. We will be even closer or ahead at the County Meet on the flat, fast course of Croton Point Park. We have run well on flatter, fast courses this year. We are in the mix to challenge the overall title, as well as the Class B title. (There is also a plaque awarded in each class).

The JV team placed fifth - missing Ben Deurso and with Tom Wray getting spiked and tripped with a 1/4 mile to go. Times will be posted at practice.

COUNTY MEET HELP NEEDED

The Westchester County Meet is at Croton Point Park on Thursday, 10/25 for Varsity and JV. Coach Ros Gallino is our on the executive committee of the Coaches association and helps to run the meet. Help is needed on the finish line at the meet. We are asking that parents help at the finish line and in the finish chute. 6-10 parents are needed to keep runners in line in the chute and as blockers. Please let us know if you can help.

We will also need help at the finish line and on the course at the Frosh County Champs at Somers on Monday, 10/22, which will be held in conjunction with the Somers Modified Cross Country Invitational. The boys Freshman race begins at 4 PM and the Girls Freshman race begins at 4:15 PM.

Again, let us know if you can help at either County race. If you would like to help with the concession stand at the Freshman/Modified Meet please contact Trudy Zorn at

tmzorn@yahoo.com.

We have always had a tradition of having food for our athletes at meets - for both boys and girls. This usually involves a case of water or gatorade, bananas, apples, peanut butter and some bagels.

Julie Gorecki - mother of Maria Gorecki is heading this up. If you are interested in helping with providing food at a specific meet, please contact Julie at gorbj@comcast.net . The Manhattan Invitational on Saturday, October 13 is the only meet where boys and girls are separate. The Girls are going to Saratoga that day.

SCHOOL WIDE BOOSTER CLUB

It is suggested that parents of seniors (at least) join the school wide athletic booster club. The Club does various activities and provides funds for various projects that benefit the whole school They also award five $1000 scholarships to senior athletes (whose parents are members of the booster club) at the senior awards dinner at the end of the school year. It is clear that we need our own booster club to purchase equipment and help with trips, but it is also important that we support the school through the main booster club. We also suggest that you get involved in their meetings. Contact information and their meeting schedule will be available on the school athletic website, which can be accessed from the district website.
