Winter Track Dinner

It has been brought to our attention that the date we had originally arranged with the high school would be in conflict with the rescheduled WISE meeting for juniors. In order to accomodate as many of our athletes as possible, we have decided to move the date for the Winter Track and Field awards dinner to Monday April 5, 6:30 p.m., all other details will remain the same. Please continue to forward your responses and questions to Cyndi Tillman atcdtil08@gmail.com or 248-0507.
We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused. We want all of our athletes to be able to attend.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing everyone on April 5!

Boys 4 x 400 runs a season best 3:30.99 at Nationals

The 4 x 400 team of Jonathan Groton (52.7), Scott Friedman (54,3), Sam Hettich (52.9), and Jonathan Garcia ran a season best time of 3:30.99 at the National Scholastics Championship Meet at the Armory, placing 31st. Another runner cut off Groton as he was handing off to Friedman, forcing him to a stop, costing the team almost two seconds. The team would have threatened the 3:29.0 mark. Still, their time makes them the second best Somers 4 x 400 team behind the school record (3:27.7) team of 2006. That team consisted of Alex bean, Chris Gonzalez, Nick Gonzalez, and Kevin Winters.

Crosby Tillman 3rd at Nike Indoor Nationals AND NSIC, girls relays race well

Junior Crosby Tillman competed at The Nike Indoor Nationals last weekend and placed 3rd, earning All -American honors for the 2nd time.  Tillman finished in 7:32.57, and went through the 1500m in 7:05.20, both all time bests.  The times just missed school record holder Kate Cannon's junior class records of 7:01.3 and 7:30.11.  Cannon's overall school records are 6:56.03 and 7:28.05, which Tillman is in line to break next year.

Tillman came back to place 3rd again on Sunday in the mile RW at the NSIC in New York City.  Her time of 7:41.10 was a solid performance after a slow start to the race.

The girls 4x800m relay team of Maggie Hashmall (2:29.2), Eve Marenghi (2:21.6), Alexa Baiano (2:32.4) and Rachel O'Connell (2:31.4) ran 9:55.01 at the NSIC in New York to place 30th.  The time was a season best and ranks 10th best in school history.

The girls Sprint Medley Relay team of Maggie Hashmall (64.0), Kim Walsh (27.8), Jocelyn Almodovar (27.4) and Eve Marenghi (2:23.5) combined to run 4:23.45 to place 29th.  The time ranks 3rd best in school history.

Boys 4x8 runs 8:09.07, qualifies for Penn Relays

Only 32 small schools in the country will race at The Penn Relays in April, but the Somers Tuskers will be there again this year. The team of Frankie Licursi, Albert Tunas, Scott Freidman, and Isaac Shelby ran 8:09.07, the 4 best team in school history.

Licursi led off with a 2:01.3 split and handed off to Albert Tunas, who joined an elite group of Tuskers with his 1:59.8 carry. Sophomore SCott Friedman ran 2:03.4 and gave way to junior Isaac Shelby, who was timed in 2:04.0. All four Tuskers ran personal bests. It was the fastest time for a Somers team since the 2008 team ran 7:55 to place 6th at NSIC.

The Tusker relays are some of the best in New York State Class B. The 4x200m is ranked 2nd, the 4x400 is ranked 5th, and the 4x800 3rd.

School Record 4 X 200 at Nationals

The boys 4 x 200 meter relay team finally broke the record they have been chasing for the past two years. After several near misses (.1 off the record 1:34.3 at the MET Invitational), the team of Jonathan Garcia (23.4), Anthony Pierotti (23.5), Jake Robatel (23.7, and Jonathan Groton (23.1) broke the record with a time of 1:34.12 FAT (1:33.9 hand time), at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships - at the Armory,
Friday, March 12.

This group of seniors running in their last indoor 4 x 200 meter relay ran a great team race. Garcia, slowed in recent weeks by a hip flexor injury, was a doubtful starter but led off with a blazing start and ran his PR 23.4. Pierotti also limited in training with a foot injury also ran a great leg and finished strong in 23.5. Robatel held his inside lane, battling off runners who would cut him off and ran an excellent leg of 23.7. Groton, always steady and consistent at anchor broke away from the second pack with a burst of speed to finish a strong second in his heat with a time of 23.1 to secure the school record time for his team.

The team broke the time of 1:34.2 set in 2006 by Morgan Abdelnour, Nick Gonzalez, Chris Gonzalez, and Kevin Winters. Their time of 1:34.2 was also set at the Armory.
The 2003 team ran 1:34.4 at West Point's flat track. That time remains the flat track school record.
