Nolan and 4 x 800 Meter Relay Win at Sectionals, Boys Team ranked 2nd in the State for Class B Teams

Kevin Nolan (pictured left) won the pole vault with a leap of 13'0" at the
Section One Class B Championship Meet, Wednesday,
February 13. Kevin also recently broke the School Record
with a leap of 13' 1" at the Andy Wasnik Invit. Meet at "The
Barn" on February 8.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Justin Zorn -2:03.3 - PR,
Dave Sammel - 2:03.5 - PR, Ryan Matsumoto - 2:08.7, and
Scott Friedman - 2:04.9 also won at Sectionals with a Season
Best time of 8:20.1.

The Boys team placed third of 23 teams at Sectionals
with 66 points. Pearl River won with 101 points and Rye
placed second with 81 points. Not our best day, but we had
some excellent performances. We will bounce back next
week at State Quals and at Spring Sectionals.

One bit of good
news this week is that the
team is ranked Second in the State

for Class B teams.



The Girls team placed fourth at Sectionals of 23 teams
with 37.7 points. Pearl River - 137.2 points won the meet.
Nanuet placed second with 55 points and Harrison placed
third with 52 points. Not the girls best day either, but both
teams will bounce back at State Quals and Spring Sectionals.
Girls team brings back all scorers next year. Most team
members are sophomores!!

ADDITIONAL MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
Will Panzarino - 2nd in the pole vault at 12'0"
Steven Graff - 5th in the pole vault at 11'6"
Mark Linkletter- 6th in the pole vault at 11'0"
With Kevin Nolan winning the vault, the vaulters scored
21 points for the team.

Dave Sammel - 5th in the 3200 meters at 10:00.0 - PR
4x 200 meter relay - Omri Blair, Kevin Nolan,
Steven Crowley, Joe Martell0 - 3rd in 1:36.01.
4 x 400 meter relay - Scott Friedman, Joe Martello,
Nick Schleissmann, Omri Blair - 3rd in 3:39.6.
Justin Zorn - 5th in the 1600 meter run in 4:37.5.



Emily Polvere (pictured left) - 7.48 - SCHOOL RECORD - in the 55 meter
dash - 2nd place. 2nd place also in the 300 meter dash -
43.02 - SOMERS FRESHMAN RECORD - #2 ALL TIME.

Jackie Krueger - 6th in the 1500 meter run in a PR 4:58.9.
Charley Comparetto - 5th in the 3200 meter run in a huge
PR of 11:35.4 - Excellent Freshman time.

Near miss - 4 x 200 - Cece Elmore, Danielle Muir, Tara
Bergstrom, and Emil Polvere finished first in the 4 x 200 in
what would have been a school record in 1:50.1 - but were
disqualifed for passing the baton out of the zone. All 4 are
sophs. They are looking to break 1:50.0 next week at State
Quals. This group will be a force to reckon with!

KRISTI LICURSI AT MILLROSE SATURDAY / NO PRACTICE FOR TEAM

Congratulations to Kristi Licursi for being selected to
compete in the mile racewalk at the fabled Millrose Games
tomorrow. She will be racing at approximately 4:30 PM.

THERE WILL NO PRACTICE SATURDAY,
FEBRUARY 11, as was originally scheduled.
Run 30-45 minutes on your own and run 6-8 x
100 meter strides, Lift weights if you have them.

Good results at JV County Meet at RCC, Friday, February 5

Jesse Rinaldi - 1000 meters - 3:03.0 - 5th place - Medal
personal best.

Matt Maliniak - 3200 meters - 11:01.3 - 5th place - Medal

James Marinier - pole vault - 10' 0" - 2nd place - Medal

Mrs. Nolan will be at practice Wednesday to sell our new black
long sleeveSomers track and field T-shirts for $20. Team
sweatshirts for $35 will also be for sale. Please bring cash or
make checks out to: Somers Track and Field Booster Club.
We would like all team members to have Somers Track
and Field clothing for the Sectional Meet on February 15. If
you need any other team clothing items or if you will be at the
pole vault meet on Wednesday, you may contact Mrs. (Sue)

GREAT RESULTS AT COUNTY MEET

Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls teams who won the Westchester County Class B Titles Sunday at the Armory. The Boys were also third overall in the County with 44 Points, our best finish in several years of 40 plus teams. The Girls team was fourth with 39 points overall, also an excellent showing.

Congrats also to individual County Champs - Scott Friedman in the 1000 meter run with a huge personal best time of 2:33.80, and Kristi Licursi who won the 1500 meter racewalk with a time of 7:42.06.

NEW BALANCE MEET CANCELLED FOR SOMERS - except Girls 4 x 800 Meter Relay

All Somers High School events have been canceled for tomorrow, Saturday, January 21.
WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE NEW BALANCE GAMES.
With the possible exception of the girls 4 x 800 meter relay who will be driven to the meet by parents - if the superintendent deems the weather safe in the evening. ALL OTHER EVENTS FOR SOMERS ARE CANCELED.

The Yale Trip is still on and the team is safely in New Haven before the snow arrives.

Run on a treadmill or exercise machine for 45-60 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, and lift weights if you have them.
